Annual planning and resourcing for 2019-20 Strategy Expenditure Gap Analysis Yaola Kizito Strategy Manager 07 - 08 November 2018, Kenya School of Government, Nairobi

Leadership 1 Strategy tells us what to do as well as what not to do… guided by the leaders vision This is the game you must play: Do whatever you can to preserve unity of command. Keep the strings to be pulled in your hands; the over-arching strategic vision must come from you and you alone..(From the 33 Strategies of war) …and remember the dangers of group decision making… The first rule of effective leadership is never to relinquish your unity of command

The vision barrier –The workforce not understanding the strategy. 2 BARRIERS TO EXECUTION(BSC creators) The vision barrier –The workforce not understanding the strategy. The management barrier – Executive teams time spend discussing strategy. The resource barrier – Organizations not linking budgets to strategy; The people barrier - Only 25 per cent of managers have incentives linked to strategy.

Never be intimidated by an alliance of forces against you; if they share leadership, if they are ruled by a committee, your advantage is more than enough. In fact, do as Napoleon did and seek out enemies with that kind of command structure… You cannot fail to win
