Activator: In your notebook answer: Take out your Homework and leave on the corner of your desk. In your notebook answer: What is 5% written as a fraction? (in simplest form)

Objective -I will be able to find a percent of a quantity in a real world context. -So I can model real world and mathematical problems of percents and be able to write a percent as a fraction over 100 or as a decimal to the hundredths place. I will demonstrate my understanding when I can successfully complete at least 2 out of the 3 real world or mathematical problems with my partners with at least 80% accuracy. 6RP3

Language Objective Academic math Language Vocabulary: By the end of the lesson, I will be able to use all four language domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing to listen to and have an oral discussion with my partners on how to find a percent of a quantity in a real world context. I will be able to model real world and mathematical problems of percents and be able to read and write a percent as a fraction over 100 or as a decimal to the hundredths place. Academic math Language Vocabulary: Percent , fraction, part of, whole, out of, decimal, ratio, 10 x 10 grid, acres, shaded portion (or region)

Page. S.103 Let’s take a look at the grid a little more closely… What does each block represent as a fraction? What does each block represent as a percent? Each block represents 1%   What does each block represent as a decimal? Each block represents 0.01

Well, let’s look at what the question is asking us… If he has 70% of his class get an A, how many students would that be? (He has 100 students in total)   Remember that percent means per 100, and if he has 100 students, there is our per 100, so 70% of that 100 students would be… 70! 0.70 or 0.7 The decimal, fraction and percent all show 70 out of 100

What are three things you learned about in this lesson? Closing: on post-it, answer these three questions What are three things you learned about in this lesson? Share two ways that you can write 2%. What is one thing that you still want to know about from the lesson?

How do you feel? topic.
