Huish CLP Maths 2016/17

Termly Updates Jo Cronin has been employed by the CLP to run termly update meetings. Generally the Maths Leaders from each school attend including Huish Academy (Y7 Lead). Jo shares recent research, new resources and good practice. Assessment, moderation and SATs were main focus last year as well as mastery teaching. At each meeting schools are given a CD or links to a large number of resources that can be used with children.

Joint Resources CLP has recently purchase Arithmekits for each school. These are good quality questions to use with the children to develop their skills. Future update meetings will focus on how we use these. In the summer we will review the impact of these on teaching and learning.

Calculation Policy Most schools have a similar calculation policy which has been adapted for Jo Cronin’s policy. Next steps are to work with Y7 Maths lead to develop a basic policy of how each written operation is taught so there consistency across all schools. Coordinator meetings will then be used to share this.

Maths day Aim: To develop the confidence of Y6 girls in Maths Rationale: Girls’ Maths has shown to be a weaker area when looking at CLP data. Planning: To involve Y7 and Y6 girls, have fun with maths, using Jo Cronin to facilitate this. When: Second half of summer term. Impact: Compare confidence of children before this and in the autumn term of Y7 through interview and questionnaire.
