Writing a Summary

Include Title/Author In instances where our MyPerspectives books don’t give an author, we can credit Pearson as the author. Titles of books are italicized when typing and underlined when writing by hand Article titles go in “quotation marks”

Be concise Your summary should not be larger than the text you are summarizing. Keep it short.

“Quotes” Try not to use quotes when possible When a direct quote is used, put it in “quotation marks”

FACTS Most important aspect of a summary Use facts only, no opinions No personal feelings or bias
