Jay Maisel

Jay Maisel Born in 1931(age of 85)

Style of photography Photojournalism, magazine, advertising, documentary, and some portraits.

Photography techniques he uses Jay maisel uses the rule of thirds, and very strong primary and secondary colours. Not much depth of field.

Who does he work for? He works for reports, jazz albums, magazine covers, advertising and other clients worldwide.

Camera and lens types Jay maisel carries 24-70mm and 70-300mm on his nikon D3 camera because he likes to walk around with as little equipment as possible.

Lighting Jay Maisel primarily uses ISO 6400 now as he is able to take pictures in dark where neither the camera or he can see.

Early influences Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ernst Haas, Irving Penn, Robert Frank, Bill Garnett, Arnold Newman.

Why do I like Jay Maisel’s work I love Jay Maisel’s use of colour and light. I love the proportion of light and darkness along with contrast between colours. I selected him as I really like his technique and I want to take photos like him from both studying and taking photos like him.
