World Trade Center September 11, 2001 Monday, March 11th HW: No homework! Aim: Why was the entry of the U.S. in WWII significant? Do Now: Compare December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001. World Trade Center September 11, 2001 Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941

IMAGINE: The year is 1940. A war is raging in Europe. Every day the newspaper carries stories of the latest bombing raids on London and other British cities. The photographs of the devastation are shocking. As you read the stories and view the photographs, you wonder what the United States should do to help Great Britain, its longtime ally… Should the United States stand aside and let the European nations settle the issue themselves? Should the United States offer help to Great Britain in the form of arms and other supplies? Should the United States join Great Britain in their struggle against the Axis powers?

Lend-Lease Act President Roosevelt could lend or lease arms or other supplies to the Allied Powers.

SUMMARY Why do you think the entrance of the United States in World War II is considered a turning point?
