Reintroducing Literary Devices October 27th, 2014

Warm Up: Vocab Lesson 7 Warm Up: Vocab Lesson 7 Date: Monday, October 27th, 2014 Writing Prompt: Copy down the vocab words and definitions for lesson 7 in “Vocabulary from Classical Roots” Book C.

Agenda Learning Target:  Today I will review literary terms because they are a cornerstone of fully understanding literature. Pre-Assessment (using Plickers) Literary Devices Pow-Toon Notes on Literary Devices

What do you already know? We will take a brief pre- assessment to see what you already know about literary devices using the Plickers. Turn the card to have the letter you want to choose on top. For example, if you want to choose “A” turn your card so that the letter “A” is on top. A D B C

More on Plickers Once you answer the question with your answer choice (either “A,” “B,” “C,” or “D”), I will scan the room with either my iPad or cell phone. The picture to the right is what results. I will know which of you answered with which answer but your classmates won’t know what you answered.

Literary Devices Pay close attention to this PowToon. Which of these literary devices do you already know? Which of these do you not know (or remember)? Did you learn anything new?

Notes on Literary Devices Pull out your spiral-bound notebook to take notes. Label them “Literary Devices”

Homework Read for 30 minutes. Continue working on your Genius Hour project. Study your vocabulary words in preparation for Friday’s quiz.

Closing Popcorn: You will each take turns popcorning out random facts you learned in class today about literary devices or related to the concepts presented in class today.
