PIRATE COLLEGE ACADEMY Period 1 SUBJECT (Week 13) Date: 28 Nov – 2 Dec 2011 Loc: Rm 50 – W. Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 6 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 3 &4 PIRATE COLLEGE ACADEMY Period 1 STANDARD AF1.1 Write and solve one-step linear equations in one variable. 1d. Students will know that earthquakes are sudden motions along breaks in the crust called faults and that volcanoes and fissures are locations where magma reaches the surface. 1.0 I want you to be able to solve problems that involve fractions. LEARNING OBJECTIVE Calculate and solve problems involving one – linear equations in one variable. Students will explain what an earthquake is and know how faults and earthquakes are related. I want you to tell me what a fraction is and how it is used. Use your Cornell notes to show me what you have learned. AGENDA Introduce chapter 1-7 Algebra:Equations Lecture using CD and DVD Brain Pop on Equations Introduce chapter 6-1: Earthquakes and Plate Boundaries Check foldable, pg 243. Show Brain Pop on Earthquakes. Look at Movie Earthquake 10.0 Chapter 1 Discuss the Social Contract. Show Brain Pop on Comparing Fractions. DO NOW ACTIVITY Get out your foldable. Solve the 6 practice problems that are on the board. Work with study buddy to finish homework assignment. Design an interactions plate boundary with a drawing or use clay models on page 247 or 248. Take out your program card and make sure it gets signed. Start making you time table chart from 1 x1 to 12 x 12. HOMEWORK Read chapter 1-7 on Algebra: Equations starting on page 49. Do problems 1-43 on page 51 to 52. Start reading Lesson 6-1, Earthquakes and Plate Boundaries pg 1246 to 251. Answer questions 1-8 on page 251. Complete Lesson 1-1, Parts of a Whole and Parts of a Set from page 2 to page 10. TEST Test will be on one-step linear equations with one variable. Your test will be on lesson 6-1, Earthquakes and Plate Boundaries which is found on the website. Test will be on Parts of a Whole. EXTRA CREDIT Make the foldable on page 22. Label on side with lesson 1-7 and use it to place your notes on it. Keep this foldable in your folder and add more lessons when get to them later on in the school year Make a model of Interaction of plate boundaries on page 211, 212, or 213 using clay, blocks, or paper mache. Bring model in the class and explain your findings. Make a fraction shape using the Blue Base 10 blocks.
