India Electricity – 2006 Session – II Renovation & Modernisation Presented by: M.R. Ganesan / GM / SSBG Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.
Boiler & auxiliaries Pressure Part components are designed for hrs of operation (ASME stress values are for hrs.) Selection of various equipments / materials is based on specific input parameters, steam requirements, coal, ambient condition. Original design
Pollution Control Equipments Based on output parameters of boilers. Coal / Ash characteristics of coal. Pollution control norms Original design
Turbine, Generator & Auxiliaries Designed for ambient & cooling water temperature & blade profile. Components are selected based on operating conditions. Original design
Balance of Plant Selection based on specific requirements of inputs of main plant – boiler, pulverizers, TG Electrical, etc. Water quality & quantity. Coal quality & quantity. Original design
Boiler components suffer due to Service related damages like Oxidation, Corrosion, Erosion and Creep Fatigue Deterioration in coal quality Unit capacity derating Inadequate spares / quality spares Postponement of overhauls / no overhauls Absence of good O&M practices Aging of old equipments – erosion, material damages Low Availability / Reliability State of art features available now for the Design and Operation Philosophy of yesteryears Need for R&M
Benefits of R & M Extended life. Restore lost capacity and /or enhance rated capacity. Improved availability & reliability. Improved heat rate & cycle efficiency. Reduction in auxiliary power consumption. State of art systems for better O & M practices. Low capital requirements compared to green field projects. Low gestation period. Meeting statutory pollution norms.
Strengths of BHEL Improvement on design philosophies to suit Indian conditions based on vast experience. Developed technologies / retrofits to improve the performance e.g: Smart Wall Blower System. Gravimetric feeders with micro processor controls Steam Tube Leakage Detection (STLD) system By-pass Over Fire Air System – NOx Control High efficiency BFP cartridge.
Korba East Thermal Power Station - CSEB (2x120 MW) R&M executed by BHEL Scope of work based on RLA and Condition Assessment. Units running consistently at PLF > 80%. Kothagudem Thermal Power Station – APGENCO (Station B&C – 4x110MW uprating to 4x120 MW) Scope of work arrived at after RLA studies and Condition Assessment and specified by APGENCO. Uprating to 120 MW implemented. Units running consisting at PLF > 85%.
GSECL – Ukai TPS (2x120 MW) Scope: Turnkey execution of R&M works of 2x120 MW Ukai TPS Units 1&2 (involving Boiler & Aux, TG & Aux, C&I, Balance of Plant and Electrical). HPGCL – Panipat TPS (1x110 MW) Scope: Uparting of 1x110 MW SKODA Turbines (involving Boiler & Aux, TG & Aux, C&I, Balance of Plant and Electrical) R&M under execution by BHEL
Adjustment required for compilation of final R&M cost: Suggestions Environmental requirements, like ESP addition, etc. Exclude normal O&M spares Additional allocation for extent of BOP scope The scope & price should be based on the recent RLA study. Performance guarantees should be in line with MOP guidelines.
