STEP ONE Read the question carefully 549+628 =

STEP TWO Write the sum using the column method HTU 549 + 628 -------- + 628 -------- =_____ Add the numbers in the units column first. If the answer is more than 9 carry the tens part of the answer to the next column = 7 ¹

STEP THREE Add the numbers in the tens column and remember to add any number carried forward. If the answer is more than 9 carry the tens part of the answer to the next column. HTU 549 + 628 -------- = 77 ¹

STEP FOUR Add the numbers in the hundreds column and remember to add any number carried forward. If the answer is more than 9 carry the tens part of the answer to the next column. HTU 549 + 628 -------- =1177 ¹
