Background Info My background: I received my undergraduate degree from University of Maryland, College Park. I was a double major-English/Education I am currently 3 courses away from receiving my graduate degree from Bowie State University. My experience: This is my 5th year teaching. Six years ago, I was a student teacher here at Ogle! I am certified to teach grades 7-12 in the state of Maryland. I have also taught eighth grade. I am a mentor teacher

Homework Will be given AT LEAST 1-2 times a week, which will reinforce class work. Students are expected to read for thirty minutes nightly in addition to grammar and writing assignments. Students are also expected to bring in a novel for Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) during class.

Agenda Book This is where their homework is written down. Students should always copy the homework in the beginning of class. It will be posted on the chalk board, and in my daily power points.

Course Description Emphasis will be on reading, writing, and communication content including strategies, analytical thinking, vocabulary, grammar, research, technology, and presentation skills. Based on the Common Core State Standards.

Cornell Notes Cornell note taking helps your student to be organized and process the information. Note taking helps students remember what is said in class. Students should review their notes at least 3 times each week! A good set of notes can help students work on assignments and prepare for tests outside of the classroom.

Cornell Notes

So what do they do with these AWESOME NOTES??? Review them at least 3 times to better memorize! Quiz themselves, or a partner, by folding the page and answering the questions they wrote without looking. Use them to study before a test!

Grading Factors Tests and quizzes 50% Classwork 25% Homework 25% Students will be evaluated using the following criteria: Tests and quizzes 50% Classwork 25% Homework 25%

SchoolMax Please access SchoolMax at least 2 times a week in order to stay abreast of your child’s grades. We are currently in the 4th week of school and your child will have at least 5-6 grades in the system.

How can you help your student? Check your student’s agenda to see their homework assignments. Ask to see their notes. Remind the student to study their notes for a few minutes each night. Quiz the student on their notes by folding the paper back, and asking questions from the left. Check your SchoolMax account Check School Notes weekly Never hesitate to email me with any questions/concerns.
