What is Trust? Trust is the positive expectation that another will not take advantage of you. Three types in human relations: Deterrence- Based Trust Knowledge-Based Trust Identification-Based Trust

Deterrence-Based Trust Most human relations begin with this level Most fragile since one violation or inconsistency can destroy human relations Most people are on their best behavior when we first meet people

Knowledge- Based Trust Most common organizational trust. Trust is based on experience dealing with the other person Based on our knowledge, we can predict the other person’s behavior. The better we get to know people, the better we can predict their behavior – and trust them.

Identification – Based Trust Occurs when there IS A emotional connection – Friend rather than coworker. This is the highest level of trust.
