It’s Q4, Are You Where You Want to Be? Cardinal Class 3/22

Material Smitha Student Reflection Sheet Pencil Copy of individual report card

Think About It We are in the final quarter of the academic year. It is imperative that you take a look at how you are progressing academically, behaviorally, and even socially. Things to ponder: Have my grades improved or declined? How is my behavior at school? Do the people I surround myself with influence my grades and behavior? This exercise is meant for you to take stock of how you have progressed through the academic year. Questions asked apply to students who may be struggling, as well as those you are excelling.

Record It Follow the directions on the Student Reflection Sheet to input your grades for Q1-Q3 for all seven classes. Calculate your average for Q1-Q3 by adding up all three quarters’ grades. Place the totals in the appropriate rows. Divide the total by 3 to obtain your current average for the year in each class. Place the total in the appropriate rows. Subtract your current total from 280 to identify the grade you must make or maintain to pass the class for the year.

Reflect Answer these questions. (Teachers, please discuss each question and allow students to answer each question before moving to the next slide.) 1. What were the major contributing factors that led to the grades I earned Q3? They may work with a partner or this may be completed as a class. Things to think about: Did I complete all assignments? Did I pay attention/participate in class? Did I ask for help when I needed it? Did I seek out extra assistance if needed (before/after school tutoring, Teacher Office Hours?) Did I read for 20-30 minutes each evening? Did I use IXL and other study material on a weekly basis?

Behavior/Conduct 2. How did my behavior in class influence the grades I earned? Things to think about: Did I follow directions and do what was asked of me? Did I pay attention/participate in class? Was I engaged in the learning process? Did I work appropriately with peers to complete work? Did you earn conduct points for infractions in class?

Socialization/Relationships Am I surrounding myself with friends who are supporting me in the grades I earned? Things to think about: Do my friends and I have similar grades? What does this say about the people I surround myself with? Do those around me encourage me to do my best? Do friends assist me in areas of need? While at school, do we talk about school?

WELL? Class Discussion Are you where you want to be? Are you doing the things needed to get good grades? Is the way you act in class, and at school, having a positive effect on you mastering content? Are the individuals you associate yourself with having a positive effect on your grades?

Improve It On the back of your Reflection Sheet you will create one academic goal, one behavior or social goal and one personal goal. Think about your plan to achieve those goals and list it under each goal. Then complete the summary of what you need to do to reach or maintain my goals. You may discuss your goals with a partner or as a class. Complete the report card update section at the bottom. These goals should be discussed with your parents over the weekend.
