pp. 164-5 (Historical Highlights) A famous war—Trojan War is the setting for the Iliad. City States Sparta known for military Athens known for democracy, drama, and philosophy

pp. 164-5 (History, cont.) Homer wrote epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey about the time period known as “The Decline” During the “Growth of City States”, Sparta and Athens developed (Athens became the world’s first democracy. Alexander the Great became a great leader late in the period.
