Authentication scheme July 2004 Authentication scheme 3GPP requires (U)SIM based access control Explicitly identified by SA1 in LS answer to SA2 (s1-040716) The use has to be authenticated using 3GPP system (e.g. USIM) in order to access 3GPP PS services Therefore, WLAN has to support: EAP based authentication (11i) UE has to contain USIM support (hardware, or software) Cheng Hong, Tan Pek Yew

Network sharing and selection July 2004 Network sharing and selection Two issues involved in the network sharing arch in 3GPP: Network information Discovery Network selection Network information discovery includes: - WLAN capability discovery (e.g. WLAN is a IWLAN, Link capability of the WLAN, QoS status, etc.) - Network behind the WLAN (e.g. what PLMN is connected, relationship with UE’s HPLMN) So far two methods proposed - SSID based for WLAN selection - (Information to be included in the beacon/probe) - EAP based - A method developed in the EAP group (using EAP error message) * More details in 3GPP TS24.234 from 3GPP CN1 group Cheng Hong, Tan Pek Yew

Charging requirements July 2004 Charging requirements WLAN Needs to support both for the interworking Charging offline charged interworking subscribers Charging online charged interworing subscribers Details in TS23.234 sec 7.7 & 7.8 For online charging WLAN needs to support realtime monitoring AP should collect real time usage information and carry out the update Information has to be updated to the charging entity in WLAN (AAA entities) Needs to be able to revoke user connection based on credit/quota updates Cheng Hong, Tan Pek Yew
