Freewrite- “A Good Story” The classical unities, Aristotelian unities, or three unities are rules for drama derived from a passage in Aristotle's Poetics. unity of action: a play should have one action that it follows, with minimal subplots. unity of time: the action in a play should occur over a period of no more than 24 hours. unity of place: a play should exist in a single physical space and should not attempt to compress geography, nor should the stage represent more than one place. What makes a good story? Think about the last time you read an engrossing book, watched a dazzling movie, heard a deep story, or saw a fantastic play. What about that story made it so good?

The digital heir to the radio show Podcasting The digital heir to the radio show

Podcasting A podcast (verb: podcasting) is an audio program, similar to a radio show or blog. It is designed to be listened to, not read. Whereas radio broadcasts live programming, podcasts are designed to be download and listened to on demand.

Podcasting vocab narrative: a spoken or written story

Podcasting vocab sensory language/imagery: a way for a writer to help the reader see or connect with an image, description, action, or scene. Sensory language is language that connects to the five senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch) to create an image or description. Since a podcast is exclusively an audio (sound) experience, we need to employ sensory language to illustrate our stories for listeners

Podcasting vocab aside: a remark or passage by a character that is intended to be heard by the audience but unheard by the other characters in the story.

Podcasting vocab vignette: a brief evocative description, account, or episode

Podcasting vocab bumper fade mix Music played in between segments for mood and pacing fade (Fade in/out) a gradual change in volume mix The audio levels of the elements in the pod

Homework Search online for a podcast that you might enjoy. What is the name of the podcast? Who is the host of the podcast? Who produces the podcast (radio station, podcasting network, news website, etc)? Search tips: “sports podcasts,” “sci-fi podcasts,” “video game podcasts…”
