Presentation transcript:

Persepolis Culminating Task {due Wednesday to turnitin.com} Similar to the handout Mr. Smith gave you for the “Theme Development” writing task last week, you will be finding panels that develop Marjane Satrapi’s purpose, theme, and/or ideas about social classes--her Marxist message. Find 3 ‘chunks’ of panels where Satrapi is developing her theme/purpose/Marxist message. Do not only use panels we discussed in comparison to “Waves” For an extra challenge: skip the “The Letter” Record the chapter, page, and panel number(s)… take pics or screen shots?? Give a brief description of each chunk, remember the literary and graphic elements that authors use to develop themes. Write a thesis statement about how Satrapi is developing her theme/purpose/Marxist message. Explain HOW and WHY Satrapi is delivering a Marxist critique of the Iranian Theocracy. Read “The Social Classes– Iran” from Smith’s website. How would a Marxist react to the current reality of life in Iran? Is it what Marjane Satrapi is predicting in Persepolis?
