Questions and answers What are earthquakes? Earthquakes are violent and sudden movements of the earth’s crust. Where do they occur most often? Why? In isolated regions, near the coasts of America and Asia. Because they are near the plate’s crush. How likely is it that your area will experience an earthquake? In Peru’s coast it is common but not so much.

Earthquakes and Volcanoes Earthquakes and volcanoes could kill people. Also, they can destroy edifications and leave people with no homes. Here in Peru, in Arequipa, once they was an earthquake on year 2001, many people stayed with no homes and with nothing.

Earthquakes in South America This is a map with the earthquakes that happened along the coast of South America between the years 1471 and 1995.

How can people prevent from earthquakes? First, stay calm, look for a safe place (i.e. Under a table or in an open space). Then, look for emergency equipment. Get away from windows and glasses. After these, call the paramedics in case someone is hurt or injured.

Conclusions Earthquakes are the movements of the tectonic plates while crushing. Volcanoes are another result of the plate’s crush. They occur in isolated regions and near the coasts of America and Asia. The earthquakes are dangerous and they can leave people with no home. People have to prevent by making drills in their neighborhoods, in schools an in many other places.
