The Microscope

 Fill in the Microscope Parts. Ocular Lens (eyepiece) Body Tube Arm Nosepiece Objective Lenses: 4X, 10X, 40X Stage Clips Stage Diaphragm Course Adjustment Knob Light Source Fine Adjustment Knob Base

 Magnification 40 100 400

Focusing the Microscope Start with the lowest power objective lens first. Move the stage up using the coarse adjustment, so the specimen is as close to the lenses as possible without touching it.  Look through the eyepiece lens and focus until the image is sharp using the fine adjustment.  Switch to the next power lens and do minor adjustments with the fine focus knob. Repeat if necessary

 Microscope Parts Eyepiece Lens:  The lens at the top that you look through.  They are usually 10X or 15X power.  Tube:  Connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses Arm:  Supports the tube and connects it to the base. Hold the arm to carry. Base:  The bottom of the microscope, used for support. Hold the bottom of the base to carry.

 Microscope Parts Illuminator/light:  A steady light source (110 volts) used in place of a mirror. Mirror:  to reflect light from an external light source up through the bottom of the stage. Stage:  The flat platform where you place your slides. (If it has a mechanical stage, use the two knobs to move the slide around) Stage Clips:  hold the slides in place.

 Microscope Parts Objective Lenses:  Increases magnification. Usually you will find 3 or 4 objective lenses on a microscope.  4X, 10X, 40X Total magnificiation= eyepiece X objective Diaphragm or Iris:  the rotating disk under the stage.  Coarse Adjustment Knob: moves stand to focus image (major adjustments) Fine Adjustment Knob: moves stand small amount to focus image (minor adjustments)
