Lanier Middle school AN INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE WORLD School Welcome to Cluster 7S Mrs. Williams, Cluster Leader/Individuals and Societies Ms. Kolodziej, Sciences Mrs. Rothschild, Language and Literature Mr. Vigil, Math Lanier Middle school AN INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE WORLD School

Cluster 7Success All of your teachers have a shared goal – your success. We are here to support you and celebrate your accomplishments throughout the year! IB Learner Profile Awards – every 9 weeks Cluster award ceremonies with prizes 7S Academic Pin Program Field trips … and more to come! Mr. Vigil will go over pins more in depth in his class, but you can tell them it is earned from no missing work and academic achievement on progress reports/report cards

Planners Important tool to keep up with your work and be successful Serves as a hall pass any time you need to leave the room All teachers expect that you are recording the agenda and homework for each class in your planner. This is part of your warm-up! Will be checked periodically through SLAB

Progress Reports/Report Cards Don’t be surprised by your progress report and/or report card grades! Keep up with your grades online. These reports are essential for you and your family to track your progress throughout the year. You will return these reports signed by a guardian to Mr. Vigil, even if you have algebra, within ONE WEEK of receiving them. Tied to 7S Academic Pin Program Parents may be contacted if you do not turn in a signed report in a timely manner.

Tutoring Schedule and Policies Be on time and prepared with specific questions and/or an assignment with which you need help. Tutoring ≠ babysitting. Attend only if you need help in that SUBJECT area. Any students with an average below 70 are REQUIRED to attend tutoring. *You must get a pass from Mrs. Williams at least one day in advance to attend her tutoring. This is required for access to the building in the morning. She may not be here if she isn’t expecting you. Teacher Subject Day of the Week/Time Mr. Vigil Math Monday, 3:30-4:15 Mrs. Williams Individuals & Societies Tuesday, 7:00-7:45* Mrs. Rothschild Language & Literature Wednesday, 3:30-4:15 Mrs. Kolodziej Sciences Thursday, 3:30-4:15

Academic Honesty Policy Lanier Middle School has a long history of high academic achievement. Lanier’s long-standing motto, “Achievement with Honor,” exemplifies the high academic standards and virtues that are so closely intertwined in a place of learning. Academic dishonesty is defined in The Code of Student Conduct as, “cheating, plagiarism, or copying the work of students.” In the event a student takes part in one or more acts of academic dishonesty he/she will incur consequences as follows: 1st Offense: Zero (0) on academic work, parent contact 2nd Offense: Zero (0) on academic work, parent conference; In-school suspension (ISSC); Growth plan for Vanguard/GT students 3rd Offense: Zero (0) on academic work , parent conference; ISSC; possible exiting from Vanguard/GT program and/or exclusion from leadership program

The HUB Make sure you have access to the HUB! If you need help, ask a teacher. Username: student\s0000000 Password: MMDDYYYY (birthdate) Teachers may post assignments, class updates, quizzes, etc. for students to access at home. Students should check the HUB every night to make sure they are aware of assignments for each class. The HUB is a useful tool for lost work and essential for make-up work!

BYOD Policies Students will be notified of a BYOD day beforehand. Students are allowed to use devices for teacher-specified activities only. On a BYOD day, you will place your device face down in the middle of the table until the teacher lets you know that it’s time to use it. If your device is not there from the start of class, you are not allowed to use it later. Device security is the responsibility of the owner.   Inappropriate use or use outside of BYOD class time without permission will result in your phone being picked up and turned into Office B. Phone will then have to be collected by a parent for a $15 fee. No student is REQUIRED to bring a digital device to class.

Restroom Policy 15-15 Rule Do not ask when your teacher is leading the class, only during your own work time Passing periods are YOUR time. Take care of your business then. You don’t need to ask your teacher as long as you will be on time to class. No restroom during GSG or SLAB

Cluster QRs Tardies and missing work will be tracked throughout the cluster using QR codes. Each teacher will set up in their procedures for the QR codes in their classrooms.

Tardy Policies Tardies will be tracked cluster-wide 1st Tardy = Warning 2nd and 3rd Tardy = Teacher assigned detention 4th and 5th Tardy = Friday after-school detention

Missing Work Policies If you come to class without your homework, project, etc., you will be assigned a lunch detention for the following day. You have until 8:00 AM the next morning to bring the teacher your work. Bring work before 8:00 AM = cleared, do not have to serve lunch detention Bring work after 8:00 AM or not at all = not cleared, must serve lunch detention Failure to attend your assigned lunch detention will result in another lunch detention. Parents of repeat offenders will be contacted.

Lunch Detention YOU WILL STILL EAT LUNCH. Bring your lunch to the teacher’s classroom within 5 minutes of the start of lunch – be on time to avoid serving another lunch detention! (If you buy your lunch, you will have a pass to go to the head of the line.) Bring your missing work with you! Lunch detentions are meant to give you more time to finish your work and less time for your grade to go down. Teacher Lunch Detention Day Mr. Vigil Monday Mrs. Williams Tuesday Mrs. Rothschild Wednesday Mrs. Kolodziej Thursday

Late Work Policies Work that is not completed by the start of class Will be accepted for 5 calendar days after due date* Days Late.. Day 1: 20% penalty Day 2: 30% penalty Day 3-5: 50% penalty *Projects/research papers will be accepted up until 1 week before the end of the grading period for a 50% penalty.

Make-Up Work Policy Students who are absent will be given the opportunity to make up missing assignments. The number of days afforded for make-up work will be equal to the number of days absent. Student is responsible for independently obtaining missed assignments through the HUB or by using teacher’s classroom system. Exception: Absences due to school-related events = work due before you leave Exception: Projects, quizzes, tests  you already knew about these, due day you get back.

Study Lab Policies No restroom, 15-15 rule No devices (with the exception of e-Readers like Nooks and Kindles) Silence is golden Testing tent of shame If you need to see another teacher, you must have a pre-signed pass. No exceptions. Only 2 students may go to the library. Pre-signed pass not required. Be at your final destination by 3:10. SLAB is now at the end of the day – you should ALWAYS have something to do. Okay, you really have nothing to do? Read.
