Presentation transcript:

2 October 2014 Do now: Go immediately to your group and begin working on your excerpt. Each group will provide 3 main ideas per topic. The major ideas must be in complete sentences. The major ideas must be turned into me by ½ way point in the class. I will type the major ideas onto a word document and this will become your notes on the Equiano reading. Failure to complete this assignment to my standards will result in the entire class being responsible for his/her own notes on all topics. Today, I will discuss and explain culture of West Africa. Also, I will begin reading about the Middle Passage. Class/Homework: Read pgs. 75-77 and answer the questions.

Group Exercise: Within your small group from yesterday Discuss the introduction (Qs 1-2) and vocabulary. Today, you will work in your group to read your parts aloud. You will underline key information, box grade-level words and words that you do not know the meaning. You will answer the Qs at the end of each section. You will pick 3 main ideas from each topic to share with the class.

Movement How people, ideas, or goods get from one place to another. Movement of people: Voluntary and Involuntary Movement of Ideas: Cultural Diffusion, occurs via interaction with new people. Movement of goods: Imports and Exports.
