What is expected for 1.02?

Interpretations with Shakespearean Drama In this lesson, we will read/listen to a scene from William Shakespeare's play As You Like It. We will view two video clips depicting the same scene, and we will study a series of images which portray the scene. While reading, viewing, and studying, notice the ways the various versions are similar and different from one another.

Compare and contrast how the same words can be portrayed through very different interpretations. In the second video, you see an actor who is deep in thought concerning the condition of man. He thinks deeply about the stages, or phases, of life that man passes through as he spends time in this world. The pensive nature of his speech indicates that his words may serve more as comfort to himself than as explanation to an audience B. In the video above, you see an actor portraying these lines on stage, with dramatic emphasis at various points throughout the scene. The actor connects with his audience by adjusting the tone of his voice and through use of appropriate movements about the stage. Watch the videos from the course site.
