Mental Mapping Mental maps represent what we know about the locations and the characteristics of places at a variety of scales (local to global) from the layout of our homes to the distribution of oceans and continents on the surface of the Earth. Knowledge and experience influence the content of our mental maps. 7

Discussion How accurate were your mental maps? How did your personal perception of “important cities” compare to that of the class? What made these cities important? 8
