Figure 1. Zeolites have a very large ‘cation-exchange capacity’, meaning they can store a lot of positively charged ions. In catalysis, this is usually a proton. In this case, zeolites possess excellent acid strength and capacity. An additional advantage is that while they are very acidic, they are safe to operate as they are not corrosive like mineral acids (HCl) HCl Zeolite Figure 1. The narrow (0.3-0.8 nm) and well-defined pores of zeolites are in size range of individual molecules. As such, they can be used as ‘molecular sieves’ in separation. In addition, they give rise to a unique shape-selectivity in catalyzed reactions. Figure 1. Zeolites are microporous, aluminosilicate minerals commonly used as commercial adsorbents and catalysts. As catalysts, zeolites convert low-value products from refining to petrochemical inter-mediates. The seminal contributions by Breck, Reed, Barrer, Milton, Kerr, Flanigen, and others, have ensured a high ongoing value of zeolites to industry (hence society). Moreover, zeolites posses a substantial role in enabling technological progress . Figure 1. Zorro (Spanish for "fox") is the secret identity of Don Diego de la Vega, a fictional character created in 1919 by pulp writer Johnston McCulley. He is a Californio nobleman living in Los Angeles during the era of Mexican rule (between 1821 and 1846), although some movie adaptations of Zorro's story have placed him during the earlier Spanish rule. Crazy Dave Dude, you comin downtown tonight? C’mon, you’ve been in the lab too long! Cazzone! Dja mon! im buying man! Hey bro, sup sup?! Not sure if I am going out man.... Its just these zeolites well..they turn me on!
