Current initiatives at Macquarie State of the Nation Current initiatives at Macquarie

Purpose of the presentations Delivering Excellence Project Provide an update on current work Provide a financial update Vision for Medicine @Macquarie

Project goals Enhance the student experience across the student lifecycle Reduce duplication of effort and costs Identification of appropriate systems to support process improvement

Project principles Transparency Staff engagement Clarity Connectedness – joined up management

Project stages Document current practice, issues, gaps and set service delivery goals, attributes and targets for each stage of the student lifecycle Develop service models to deliver the service improvement goals Implement service models and processes Evaluate implementation

Project approach Establish a Working Group for each identified functional area of the Delivering Excellence program incorporating service delivery elements. Each Working Group contains a representative from each functional group currently involved in service delivery for this life cycle stage. Bring Working Groups together to make sure the life cycle processes “ join up” the elements of student experience. Repeat this process for Stage 2 but with input from cross-University functional groups (e.g. HR, IT, Finance to work out the best service delivery models to achieve the stated goals. Use this documentation as the issues paper to initiate required changes.

Work to date Changes at Executive to create accountability for improving student services, increasing operational efficiency and increasing revenue base [May 2011] Reviews of Macquarie International, Advancement and Student Services commenced [June 2011] Voluntary Separations Program and new employment approval process commenced [July 2011] Session 3 - expansion project commenced [August 2011]

Progress to date continued Reduced budgets for Macquarie International, Advancement and Student Services [Sept 2011] New process introduced for travel expenditure introduced [Feb 2012] Independent expert review completed [Jan 2012] Change Proposal developed for International, Advancement, Marketing and Student Services [Feb 2012] New Process casual and contractors introduced [Feb 2012] Review of Curriculum Management, Examinations and Completions Processes undertaken by PWC commenced [Dec 2011]

Proposed Functional Analysis Review completed for Information Technology, Marketing, Finance and HR by end Q2 2012. Review of major procurement (IT&T, Travel, Events etc) Rebalancing of research and teaching to higher outcome (financial and non-financial) programs.

Delivering Excellence Outcomes Increased investment to support L&T and Research Enhance reputation and prestige- “world famous in …” Provide appropriate support for Learning and Teaching Financing for the future- creating a sustainable organization to achieve aspirations
