Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair stuart@ok-brit.com as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. January 2007 doc.: IEEE 802.11-07/0006r0 January 2007 Abstract This presentation summarizes the proposal to specify an Extended Channel Switch Announcement in the 802.11n draft. Draft text can be found in document 11-06-1775-01-000n-extended-channel-switch-announcement-tgn. Proposal also resolves 8 letter ballot comments related to clause 11.9.8.3 Channel Management at the AP. Bjorn A. Bjerke, Qualcomm, Inc. Bjorn A. Bjerke, Qualcomm, Inc.

Extended Channel Switch Announcement January 2007 Extended Channel Switch Announcement Extended Channel Switch Announcement (E-CSA) is a mechanism for relocating a BSS/IBSS to a different channel while maintaining existing associations E-CSA is an extended version of the Channel Switch Announcement (CSA) introduced by .11h for relocating BSS to different channel when radar is detected (mandatory in majority of 5 GHz bands) E-CSA brings CSA feature to all 802.11 bands (2.4/3.7/5 GHz) E-CSA may also be used for simultaneous BSS relocation and switching between 20 MHz and 20/40 MHz operation E-CSA proposed and adopted by TGy Draft 1.0 as well as TGv Draft 0.05  Very useful feature that should be employed by TGn as well Bjorn A. Bjerke, Qualcomm, Inc.

January 2007 E-CSA vs CSA CSA: E-CSA: Bjorn A. Bjerke, Qualcomm, Inc.

E-CSA Fields Fields: Length: set to 4 January 2007 E-CSA Fields Fields: Length: set to 4 Channel Switch Mode: indicates any restrictions on transmissions until the channel switch time New Regulatory Class: the regulatory class to which the AP is moving, as given in Annex J; uniquely defines the position of the secondary channel relative to the primary channel in 40 MHz channels New Channel Number: the channel number of the new (primary) channel to which the AP is moving Channel Switch Count: the number of TBTTs until the AP switches to the new channel Bjorn A. Bjerke, Qualcomm, Inc.

January 2007 E-CSA Usage Mandatory for all HT STA; HT AP uses E-CSA to switch within or between regulatory classes regardless of band and 20/40 MHz capability When using E-CSA IE in “.11h” bands, AP may also transmit legacy CSA IE to accommodate .11h STAs (may transmit CSA frame with E-CSA IE appended); CSA and E-CSA shall point to same primary channel An HT STA associated with HT AP shall ignore legacy CSA E-CSA IE is sent in Beacon and Probe Response frames Also defined E-CSA frame for use in BSS with no legacy STA (identical to TGy/TGv) Bjorn A. Bjerke, Qualcomm, Inc.

Additional Changes to TGn Draft to Accommodate E-CSA January 2007 Additional Changes to TGn Draft to Accommodate E-CSA Add Supported Regulatory Classes IE to Association and Reassociation Request/Response frames Secondary Channel Offset IE no longer needed  delete Usage rules specified in 11.9.8.3 Channel management at the AP; also resolves 8 Letter Ballot comments Bjorn A. Bjerke, Qualcomm, Inc.
