George III and loss of the American colonies Marlyn Sepp Xb 2016

George III Became king in 1760. Married Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Happy marriage. Had high moral standards. Agricultural improvement. Advances in manufacturing mechanisation.

Loss of the American colonies The Treaty of Paris in 1762. 1764 - a quarrel over taxation. Boston tea party in 1773. The American War of Independence (1775-1783). George Washington led the American Continental Army. Declaration of Independence, July 1776.

King Geroge took the loss of the American War of Independence badly. He considered abdication. Died at Windsor castle on 29 January 1820. Succeeded by his son George IV.
