Welcome to TEC SMART! OPENING REMARKS INTRODUCE OURSELVES (DEMI TRY AND REMEMBER YOUR NAME FOR THIS ONE) WELCOME TO TEC-SMART GLAD YOU COME SHOW PSA (DON’T DISCUSS PSA YET)

Why We Like It! Opportunity to do something different with your school day. The fact that you have already taken college classes looks good to other colleges. Your are able to better understand what you would want, or not want, to do with your future. You learn to interact with other people, similar to a work environment.

What is the Program? The program takes place at the Tec-Smart Campus and is sponsored by NYSERDA, and Hudson Valley Community College. Tec-Smart takes place for the first half of the day and lasts for three hours. It’s a rigorous program focusing on your training for the future, in the fields of renewable energy and green technology DISCUSS WHY IT’S A GOOD LOCATION DISCUSS WHY THIS PROGRAM IS SO IMPORTANT GENERALLY DISCUSS THE SCHEDULE (SAVE MOST OF IT FOR LATER SLIDE) THERE ARE MATERIALS HERE TO HELP US BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT WE LEARN It’s not a free pas out of school. It requires adept concentration and a serious learning curve, but the rewards are endless It’s not high school. You’ll be spending most of your time each day in one specific classroom with the same people each day.

Our class started at 7:45 every day and went until between 10:45-11:00 Schedule Our class started at 7:45 every day and went until between 10:45-11:00 College classes take place on Monday and Tuesday, while the high school classes take place Wednesday-Friday Your lunch will usually be during the remaining time left at Tec-Smart.

What the program is not It’s not a free pass out of school, it’s a college experience It’s not your average school day, you are given much more freedom throughout the class. It’s not an average curriculum, you learn things that are actually happening around us. “It requires adept concentration and a serious learning curve, but the rewards are endless” You’ll be spending most of your time each day in one specific classroom with the same people each day.

Things We’ve Learned Need to focus and stay on task. Time Management Learned that there isn’t always a specific answer for certain things Working with others is important The challenges here have made other situations easier Communication skills Multi-tasking skills

High School Classes Clean Technologies and Sustainable Industry We have learned that there are other ways to learn things like math and science, rather then with textbooks and worksheets. The math and science courses are taught through a project based curriculum. Working with others is important during the high school classes as well.

Projects -Watershed -Public Service Announcements -New Urbanism Planning with SimCity -Climate Change -Planning a new business

Watershed Project

College Classes College classes require dedication both outside and inside of the classroom Time management is an important factor when taking these college classes. You are able to better understand a real college experience.

What Makes a Good Student? Public Speaking Working well with other students Participation Work Ethic Focus Dedication Interest

Any questions?

We can’t wait to see you next fall! Thank you! We can’t wait to see you next fall!
