Do Now: What is biodiversity? Phenomenon: Animals and plants are decreasing at an alarming rate globally. Agenda Standard: LS 2.C Use mathematical representations to revise and support explanations based on evidence about factors affecting biodiversity and populations in ecosystems at different scales. Objective: Students will explain why biodiversity is important in an exit slip. Do Now: What is biodiversity? Activity 1: Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXjI2kuNkhE Pair Share: What did you observe in the video clip and how does it relate to the term biodiversity? Activity 2: Mini Discussion and class share: Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tgNamjTRkk Activity 3: Article reading – Rainforests: A Gift on Earth Exit Slip: 2 questions

Biodiversity comes from the words biological and diversity. Biodiversity is the variety of life in the world or in a particular ecosystem or habitat. Biodiversity includes all living things, including plants, animals and micro- organisms, and their unique characteristics.

Exit Slip 1. Explain what is biodiversity and why it is important. (Explica qué es biodiversidad y por qué es importante) 2. Explain why rainforests are important? 3. What are some of the threats that rainforests are facing?
