My Spectacular Summer Vacation!

Determine your wages You and your friend are both working at the same location, working the same amount of hours weekly and making the same hourly salary. Determine how much you will make if you work 40 hours at $15 per hour and no more than 10 hours overtime working at 1 ½ times your hourly salary 50 hours total). Don’t forget that the Federal Government will take 12% of your earnings and the State of Georgia will take 5% of your earnings before you get anything. (For this activity, we did NOT deduct Social Security or any other deductions.) Show all calculations and explain each step thoroughly.

Wages Working a 40 hour week at $15 an hour, I will make _______________before taxes. If I work an additional 10 hours overtime, I will make _______________. Altogether, I will make $______________ weekly. This is my gross pay. The Federal Government will take 12%, which is $______________ from my earnings, and the State of Georgia will take 5%, which is $_____________. After my deductions, I will make $_______________ weekly. This is my net pay. How much money will you make by the end of the summer, if you work from May 26th to July 20th? I will make $____________________to spend on vacation.

Calendar. You Work from May 26- July 20

Vacation Location and Accommodations Where will you visit? (Include a picture) What made you decide on this location? Where will you be staying? (Include a picture) What made you choose this establishment? How long will you be staying? Calculate the unit rate of the cost of your living arrangements. Graph #4 and explain the x and y-axis.

Transportation (other) If you are leaving North America, describe your method of transportation (include a picture) How much will your roundtrip ticket cost? What is the unit rate of the cost each way? How many miles away is your destination location? What is the price per mile to get there and back? How long will it take you to get to your destination?

Transportation (other) We will be travelling by _________. (Include a picture) The cost of a roundtrip ticket will cost $_______________. The cost each way will be $_____________. Our vacation destination is ______________miles away. It will cost $_________________per mile to get to our vacation destination. It will take ______________________hours and ________minutes to get to our vacation destination.

Accommodations/Housing Now that you know how much money you will have, you must determine a destination and find lodging during your vacation. Don’t worry, your parents/guardians will pay for their own room. You (and your friend) will only be responsible for your room. If you have a friend, the two of you will evenly divide all expenses. Determine where you will visit and the length of your stay. Show all calculations and explain each step thoroughly.

Vehicle Rental Are you ready for a road trip?! Your family has decided that if you are staying in North America, you will be driving. You must find a rental and: Calculate AND graph the unit rate of renting the vehicle Determine the roundtrip distance that will be traveled. (to and from the vacation location) How long will it take to get to your destination? Determine the miles per gallon (mpg)* of your rental. Calculate the price of gasoline (per gallon) in your vacation region. Calculate the amount and total cost of gasoline needed for your trip. *You can use Google to find the mpg of any vehicle. For example, google “mpg Ford Explorer” and the results will be shown.

Vehicle Rental We will be renting a__________(include a picture) The cost of renting the vehicle is $______________for a total of _____days. The unit rate of our rental is $____________ per day. The roundtrip distance in miles is _______________. We will travel _____________miles each way. If we drive at a steady rate of ____________miles per hour, it will take ________hours and ________minutes to arrive at our destination. Our rental gets __________miles per gallon. The price of gasoline in our vacation region is between $___________ and $___________. Which is an average of ___________per gallon. We will need _____________gallons, for a total cost of $__________ to travel roundtrip.

Dining experiences Eating out is tons of fun! Enjoy at least one dining experience in a sit-down (NOT FAST FOOD) restaurant daily. When dining out: Don’t forget to include sales tax Always tip your server! On the occasions that you decide to eat in your room, you must still determine the cost of your meals.

Dining Out Remember to complete these questions for every meal when you eat out. Which meal is this? Breakfast, lunch or dinner? _______________(Include a picture) I ate at ___________________and enjoyed the _________________, which costed $_________________. The sales tax in _____________,____________ is ______%, therefore, the tax on my meal was_________________. I tipped my server _________%, which was $______________. The price of my meal $_________ + tax $__________ + tip $_________= $_______________.

Dining In You may choose to make a meal or grab some fast food and eat in your living quarters. There’s no need to include a tip when you’re dining in. Everytime you dine in, you’ve chosen to pay with a $50 bill, so don’t forget to calculate your change! Remember to answer questions for each meal. Which meal is this? Breakfast, lunch, or dinner?_________________(include a picture) I chose to eat ________________which costed $______________ + _______% tax was $____________. My total bill was $______________. I paid with a $50, so my change was $_________________.

Activities Whenever you go on a vacation, people ask, “Where did you go and what did you do?” Make sure you plan something exciting so that you’ll have great stories to tell your friends! Plan at least one activity during your vacation. (Include a picture) Describe why you chose this activity and how much it cost. TripAdvisor can assist you when planning activities in your city.

Gifts/Souvenirs Don’t forget to bring back a souvenir of your terrific trip! You may even have enough money left over to bring your favorite relative or bestie a gift as well! Purchase at least one souvenir/gift. (Include a picture) Describe your purchase and why you chose it. How much did your souvenir/gift cost? My souvenir/gift cost $__________ + _______% sales tax = $________________.

Summary (Itemized List of Expenses) Create a list of your total expenses. Lodging (hotel/airbnb) Transportation Meals Activities Souvenirs/gifts Working my job, I made $___________- lodging $________- transportation $____________ - meals $____________ - activities $______________ - souvenirs/gifts $__________ = $_____________ leftover.
