DEFINITIONS The Nervous System Interaction function It is the function that allows us to obtain information from the world arround us and from our body so we react to it. To perform this functions we have the sense organs. The nervous systems and the effectors are involved. The Nervous System It is the system that recieves signals from the sense organs. It interprets the information and reacts to it. The Nervous System consists of the encephalon, the spinal cord and the nerves.

SIGHT The eyes are the sense organs of the Sight. Our eyes capture light and form images of our environment. They are connected to our sense of Sight.

SMELL The olfactory bulbs are the sense organs of the Smell. The olfactory bulb in the nose captures substances (AIR) in the air that we inhale and we percieve them as smell.

HEARING The ears are the sense organ of hearing. Ears capture sound vibrations that travel through the air. They also detect the position of our body and movements. This organ is connected to the sense of hearing and our balance.

TASTE The tongue is the sense organ of the Taste. The taste buds capture substances (FOOD) that enter in our mouth and we percieve them as taste. What do we percieve ? We percieve flavours. There are different types of flavours : Salty flavour. Sweet flavour. Sour /Spicy flavour. Etc.

TOUCH The skin receptors are the sense organ of the touch. The skin receptors detect contact and changes in temperature that we percieve as touch. For example if you open the fridge and you put on the hand you percieve that is cold. That is a signal. The signal travel through nerves and it go to the brain. The brain react and seand a message to the nerves. Then the message arrives to your hand and you remove your hand.

Effectors Muscle Nerves Effectors are the parts of our body that respond to nerves signals.They are the muscles and the glands. A. Muscles allow us to react by changing positions and moving from place to another. When a muscle recieves a nerve signal, it contracts. The muscles that are attached to bones form the locomotor system. B. Glands produce substances when they recieve a nerve signal. For example, salivary glands produce saliva when the brain detects that we are going to eat. Muscle Nerves
