LEARNING SKILLS GEAR UP-2-Learn Goal Setting Test Taking Communication Working in a Team Conflict Resolution Financial Literacy Has anyone already been participating in the GEAR UP-2-Learn class? Great – for those of you who haven’t yet started this, you will this year. This is a class that is focused on helping you learn new skills that are necessary for preparing you for college – things that you might not learn in your regular classes like setting personal and educational goals, having good study skills, working in a team, resolving conflict, and communicating effectively with others. You’ll also learn some basic things about how to manage money like how to create a budget and how to save money. At the end of the course, you’ll complete a team project that will positively impact your school or community in some way. LEARNING SKILLS

Have any of you seen or gotten a copy of the GEAR UP Gazette? This newspaper is part of the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper that is delivered to your school once a month – usually the last Tuesday of the month – and each of you should receive a copy. The Gazette offers articles for you and your parents about planning, preparing and paying for college, as well as news about what’s coming up next in GEAR UP. Be sure to take this home and give it to your parents! The coolest thing about the Gazette is- you can be in it! The GEAR UP office is always accepting submissions of articles, poems, photos, and stories from GEAR UP students about their goals and what they are learning in GEAR UP. THE GEAR UP GAZETTE
