Extreme Events

Floods/Droughts Are these issues of primary concerns for science or for policy? Research issues less relevant for immediate policy implementation and vice verse. The issues are interconnected. Transdisciplinary questions. Consider droughts and floods together. Specific comments on various topics, having inn common on harmonization of methods. Right technology in right places. Understanding impacts, along with uncertainties, a key prerequisite.

Dissemination More than merely dissemination, practical uptake and implementation. Poor situation. Motivate policy organisations to look for evidence. Early identification of end users, and their involvement in research design. Whom to speak? Motivate the scientists to look for more innovative solutions. Novel instruments under the FP8. Don’t leave scientists alone with the task. Alliances between the key actors. A guidance on good dissemination practice and instruments
