What are Endowed Scholarship Endowed scholarships have been established at UMass Lowell by alumni, friends of the University and organizations for the purpose of providing support to needy, deserving and/or outstanding students Approximately 1/3 of the endowments are awarded through the Financial Aid Office to students who demonstrate financial need. Therefore it is important that students have a FAFSA on file to be considered for those endowments The remaining endowments are awarded by the individual academic departments
Who is Eligible for an Endowment Criteria for receiving endowed scholarships vary, but most funds require: A demonstration of academic achievement and/or financial need College coursework An established UMass Lowell cumulative G.P.A., and are therefore awarded to returning students Student should contact their department to inquire into endowment application process

Endowed Awarding Process Student may email Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships to express interested in a specific endowment Email should include: Information regarding extra-curricular activities, community service, volunteering Other specific information not already collected in iSiS which sets them apart from other students Inform students, endowment awards will appear on financial aid award if offered Student will also receive a separate letter regarding their award, if offered
Thank You Letters Students are required to write a thank you letter to the donor or the scholarship selection committee listed on their letter from the Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships Students are sent a guide to writing a thank you letter and information can be found at http://www.uml.edu/FinancialAid/scholarships/Current-Undergraduates/Endowed Letters must contain a handwritten signature. The letters can be mailed, emailed or faxed Letters must be sent to Cynthia Puleo in the Advancement Office Advancement notifies Financial Aid of receipt of thank you letters so that Financial Aid can completed Merit Thank You checklist on iSiS
Scholarship Luncheon Some student may be requested to attend a lunch with their donor in October IF a lunch is necessary the student will be contacted directly by the Advancement Office Financial aid does not know in advance which students will be asked to the lunch All luncheon inquiries can be referred to Cynthia Puleo in the Advancement Office
