Board Work 2/2- English III A & AH

To Build a Fire The Naturalists were interested in the way human beings rely on animal instinct and fight against their problems. They prefer looking at human beings fighting for survival against imposing and thoughtless forces of nature. Do you agree or disagree with their perspective of the world? What survival skills do you need to make it through high school? What do you rely upon most: friends, family, instinct, etc? In what ways do these help you? What kind of skills do you see yourself needing in your future? How are you cultivating those skills now? What is the coldest weather you’ve ever experienced? What was it like?

Fire Building What mistakes does the man make? List them. Who has better survival skills, the man or the dog? Why? What are these skills? What conflicts are explored in this story? What themes are explored in the story? Give examples of this theme. How does this story reflect naturalism?
