How did we get from the Old Stone Age (people playing with rock, hunting and gathering for food) to the New Stone Age (agriculture)?

Mankind has been a farmer for 0.5% of human history.

The Neolithic Era lasted from 10,000 B.C.E. - 4,000 B.C.E. (New Stone Age) Characteristics:

Agriculture - using plants and animals for human use. Domesticated (trained) animals and plants. Created a surplus (extra) of crops.

began to trade goods. People were able to specialize or do only one job. Started to use metal tools. Stayed in one place and started civilizations.
