KEY MESSAGES

CREATING KEY MESSAGES What is a Key Messages Template? A key messages template is used to create consistent messages for people impacted by a change. It is a guide for both face-to-face and written communications and it typically includes: The context for the change The reason for the change The future The impact to different people Support during the change journey   Why use a Key Messages Template? A key messages template provides a consistent message that can be used as the basis for communication and engagement. It is a guide for executives, leaders, change agents and project team members to make sure the right information is covered. This done in tandem with a communication plan will ensure the right message is shared at the right time with the right people.

CREATING KEY MESSAGES CONTEXT (THE WHY) STAKEHOLDER SPECIFIC MESSAGES Complete this section for each stakeholder group: STAKEHOLDER GROUP NAME ______________________________________ WHAT? What are they likely to be concerned about? ____________________________________________________________________________________ What are the benefits for them specifically? WHEN? What are the important milestone and when will these occur? HOW? How will this change impact them? What will change and what stays the same? What will be done to prepare them for the change? How will they be supported through the change? What is expected of them during the change? CONTEXT (THE WHY) What is the name of the change/project? ____________________________________________________________________________________ Why is the organisation implementing this change? How does it link into the organisations strategy? BENEFITS (THE WHY) What pain or opportunity is the change addressing? Why should people care if the change is successful or not? What are the benefits of this change for the organisation? What will the future look like? (internal and/or external view)
