Addition Dr. Beth McCulloch Vinson Athens State University PT3 Grant, Summer 2000
Addition Addition is the process of putting items together and counting the total number in the set.
Addition If we have 2 apples and someone gives us 3 more, we end up with a total of 5 apples.
2 apples 1 2 3 4 5 + 3 apples = 5 apples
Addition 2 apples + 3 more apples 5 apples
Addition 1 2 3 4 5 2 apples + 3 apples equals 5 apples in all
Addition If we need 6 apples for a pie, we might use 4 red apples and 2 yellow apples. This would give us a total of 6 apples.
1 2 3 4 4 red apples 5 6 + 2 yellow apples = 6 apples
Addition 4 red apples + 2 yellow apples 6 apples
1 2 3 4 5 6 Addition 2 yellow apples 4 red apples + 1 2 3 4 5 6 2 yellow apples 4 red apples + equals 6 apples in all
