Mentors and advisors often talk about finding a scholarly journal and/or publication that is a good fit for a manuscript and its contents. What does that mean and how can one tell?

Read the TOC & check the index Before you submit, read at least a year’s worth of the Table of Contents for the publication. It will help you decide if your content fits. See if your key terms/words are indexed by the journal. Check out where the publication is indexed.

Check author affiliations Are the authors from industry or academe? Are they practitioners or theorists? Is your article similar in style and content to the journal’s articles?
