Dogmatism By: Taylor Montgomery

Dogmatism Arrogant, stubborn assertion of opinion or belief. http://www.answers.com/topic/dogmatism “I am right because I am right” A viewpoint or system of ideas based on insufficiently examined premises http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dogmatism

Pop Culture Examples! With religion comes many people who are against it and for it and they both have there opinions “The truth, my friends, is found right here in this book The Bible.  All our answers are located between these leather covers, and no other truth exists.  Any other belief is evil in the eyes of God.” This person believes that the Bible is true and only true but does not give an explanation on why. As kids we all beg our parents to let us go some where or do something and we all get the answer “No” and few times. Without a doubt we always said “WHY?” The parents response “Because I said so!’’

The Crucible Examples! Act 1 Pg. 173 Goody Ann Puttnam “Reverend Parris, I have laid seven babies unbaptized in the earth. Believe me, sir, you never saw more hearty babies born.” “They were murdered, Mr. Parris! And mark this proof! Last night my Ruth were ever so close to their little spirits; I know it, sir. For how else is she struck dumb now except some power of darkness would stop her mouth? It is a marvelous sign, Mr. Parris!” Puttnam believes that all her babies were killed by witch craft and that is the only reason they died

Etc. Act 2 Pg. 201 Speaker: Elizabeth Proctor “If you think that I am one, then I say there are none.” Elizabeth tries to prove that she is not a witch by saying she knows there are none if she is one.

This is an example of Dogmatism because in his eyes he is right because he is right there is no other opinions that matter but his own.
