Studies in 1 Corinthians OUR INCORRUPTIBLE BODY 1 Cor.15:35-49

Questions asked Vs. 35, either Paul anticipated objections or he is answering arguments used by the false teachers Two questions asked: 1) How are the dead raised? 2) With what body will they be raised?

How are the dead raised up? 36-41 Change common in nature “Foolish ones” – failing to logically consider

How are the dead raised up? 36-38, What you sow is not made alive unless it dies Consider the power of a seed! The body changes (37) But God gives it a body as He pleases (38)

How are the dead raised up? 39-41 All flesh is not the same! Different kinds of flesh – men, animals, fish, birds, etc. Celestial bodies (41, Psa. 147:4) Terrestrial bodies (39, 2 Cor. 5:1, Phil. 2:10, 3:19)

How are the dead raised up? 39-41 Different “glory” Splendor – what we are learning is incredible – both in the universe and living creatures

How are the dead raised up? 36-41 IF God can do this, He can create man with 2 bodies (a dual nature) Man DOES have a dual nature (1 Thess. 5:23); Eccl. 3:18-21, 12:7, Matt. 10:28, Ac. 2:27-31

With what body will they be raised? 42-49 “So also is the resurrection of the dead.”

With what body will they be raised? The body contrasted (42-44) Sown in corruption, raised in incorruption – susceptible to decay Sown in dishonor, raised in glory – how the body decays Sown in weakness, raised in power – a body that wears down

With what body will they be raised? The body contrasted (42-44) Sown a natural body, raised a spiritual body – in this life we are flesh There is a natural body and a spiritual body

With what body will they be raised? First and Last Adam (45-49) Adam and Christ contrasted “The first Adam a living being” (Gen. 2:7) – given life That he also had a spirit is found in Gen. 1:26-27

With what body will they be raised? First and Last Adam (45-49) “The last Adam a life giving Spirit” Here Jesus gives us a spirit that will live on. Because He arose, so will we!

With what body will they be raised? First and Last Adam (45-49) Natural first, then spiritual (46) Lesson: Man has a beginning! We WILL live eternally, but we have a beginning. NO reincarnation!

With what body will they be raised? First and Last Adam (45-49) The first man of the earth, made of dust (47) humanity! The second man from heaven – our immortal soul a gift from God (as a result of the resurrection of Jesus).

With what body will they be raised? First and Last Adam (45-49) “As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust” (48) “As is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly” - Our dual nature

With what body will they be raised? First and Last Adam (45-49) Lesson: NOTHING in this text to limit this to Christians only. 2 Cor. 5:10, Jn. 5:28-29, Matt. 25:46, Rev. 20:10, 14-15, etc.

With what body will they be raised? First and Last Adam (45-49) “As we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly man” (49) Our FUTURE includes a resurrection

Since we WILL be raised like Him, how will we respond to His death for us? (Gal. 3:27)
