The first steps… Aim of the session is to introduce the module and to look at what interpreting is / isn’t. By the end of the session you should be able to: Identify what interpreting is. Be aware of module content and the assignments Use a Preparation tool when preparing for an interpreting assignment,

Module Content This module will examine the duty of Language Professionals, along with their roles & responsibilities, in conjunction with the Profession’s Code of Practice and its impact on professional conduct. The history of the ‘emerging profession’ of interpreting will be explored using relevant preparation tools and linked to current protocols for lone and co-working. A range of interpreting scenarios will be analysed to establish rights and responsibilities and to discuss the implications of accepting or rejecting assignments. Preparation for interpreting assignments will be explored in relation to preparatory models recognised within the interpreting profession.

Module Content The module will also give the learners opportunities to utilise coping strategies and explore various interpreting models to further develop their skills when interpreting

For next week …. Find a couple of clips to interpret (radio podcasts / newspaper article/ BSL you tube clip) - bring to each session along with headphones. What would you want from a preparation tool? See if you can find another preparation tool used within interpreting
