Proxy Wars

Snapshot- Page 5 LT: I can analyze how the US and USSR engaged in proxy wars around the world. SC: I know I hit the LT when explain how the proxy wars impacted both sides. Why: Understanding proxy wars during the Cold War, competing sides, source evaluation, collaboration Turn in article and questions to the box

What is a Proxy War? Opposing countries (US & USSR) avoid direct fighting, but support opponents that serve their own interest Example: Korean & Vietnam War

Instructions With a partner, get through as many Proxy War Case Studies as possible in the next 30 minutes. If you struggle with the texts, start with the summary and timeline- save primary sources for last As you are reading and analyzing case studies, fill out Note Catcher Reading strategies- skim and scan first, then read the text. Focus on US/USSR connections.

Present to Others 10 minutes Meet with students who covered different countries than you did. As you discuss each case study complete the Comparison Chart Highlight each country in a different country

Write about it… Rest of Class Answer the 3 questions on the final page Make sure you include: Supportive CDs from texts OF or “Other Factor” analysis Staple Note Catcher, T Chart, and Questions together and turn in to the box
