Drug Free Sport Revised Leave and Telework Policies Effective July 1, 2018

Revised Policies 302 Paid Time Off (PTO) 303 Telework 308 Bereavement Leave 320 Unpaid Pregnancy Leave and Unpaid Medical Leave 321 Paid Parental Leave (NEW)

Policy 302 Paid Time Off (PTO) Detailed examples of PTO use to cover absences (e.g., vacation, family matters, illness, emergencies, appointments, other personal time away) were added.

Policy 303 Telework Revisions include: All regular full-time employees in Kansas City will receive five days annually to telework for use when schedule flexibility is needed. Telework days, based on availability, may be used in conjunction with Paid Parental Leave, and Unpaid Pregnancy and Unpaid Medical Leave.

Policy 308 Bereavement Leave Revisions include: Shall be used in full or half days only. Additional paid bereavement leave may be used for special circumstances (approved by the employee’s supervisor). An employee may also request PTO once approved bereavement leave has been exhausted.

Policy 320 Unpaid Pregnancy Leave and Unpaid Medical Leave Revisions include: Description column added (e.g., eligibility, approval process, payment, qualifying reason(s)/amount of leave, benefits status, employment status, types of leave available, duration of leave). An employee must provide request to his or her supervisor and the Human Resources Generalist (Andrayana).

Unpaid Pregnancy Leave and Unpaid Medical Leave Up to 10 business days for employee’s delivery, during or immediately following pregnancy. Up to 10 business days for the care of a newborn child immediately following the birth of the child (all other qualifying reasons/amount of leave for Unpaid Medical Leave remains the same). Unpaid Pregnancy, Unpaid Medical and Paid Parental Leave may be used consecutively.

Unpaid Pregnancy Leave and Unpaid Medical Leave If an employee will like to be paid during Unpaid Pregnancy Leave and/or Unpaid Medical Leave, PTO must be used. An employee cannot be away from the office using leave for more than 30 consecutive business days. For the purpose of this limitation, Unpaid Pregnancy Leave, Unpaid Medical Leave and Paid Parental Leave are combined. For example, if an employee takes 10 days of Unpaid Pregnancy Leave, 10 days of Unpaid Medical Leave and 10 days of Paid Parental Leave, the employee cannot take additional days by using PTO within a period of 10 business days.

Unpaid Pregnancy Leave and Unpaid Medical Leave Additional time may be available for special circumstances and must be approved by the President of Drug Free Sport. Holidays and/or “Summer Fridays” do not extend the employee’s leave entitlement during unpaid or paid leave.

321 Paid Parental Leave Drug Free Sport will provide up to 10 business days of paid parental leave to eligible employees following the birth of an employee’s child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption or foster care. The purpose of paid parental leave is to enable the employee to care for and bond with a newborn, newly adopted or newly placed child. This policy may run consecutively with Unpaid Pregnancy Leave and Unpaid Medical Leave, as applicable. Paid parental leave will be in effect for births, adoptions or placements of foster children occurring on or after July 1, 2018.

Paid Parental Leave Approved paid parental leave must be taken immediately following the birth, adoption or placement of a child with the employee, and may be used consecutively with unpaid medical leave and/or PTO, as applicable. Paid parental leave may not be used or extended beyond this time frame. Paid parental leave may be used preceding or following any unpaid medical leave and/or PTO. In the event of an employee who has given birth, the two weeks of paid parental leave may be used preceding or following any unpaid pregnancy and/or unpaid medical leave and/or PTO, as applicable. Please reference Policy 321 for detailed information pertaining to eligibility; amount, time frame and duration, and coordination with other policies.
