Arrive at HRMS at 5:30 A.M. Monday, April 15, 2019 Check in at your assigned classroom and receive your hoodie and further instructions. You will receive your “assigned class room” the week before we go on the trip.

Holiday Tours Bus Guidelines Their Rules! Stay seated Use ear buds Snacks from home okay Only plastic bottles with caps Keep it clean NO GUM DO NOT bring food from meal stops on bus No aerosols No loud or distracting noises

DAY 1 Depart HRMS at 6:00 AM Take your sack lunch to eat at rest stop Arrive in DC at approximately 2:00 PM Buses will split up upon arrival. Arrive @ National 4H Center about 5:00 PM for check-in (Get your name tag/meal ticket) Dinner at 4H Center

Illumination Tour 6:30 P.M. Lights out at 11:00 PM! End of DAY 1 Arrive back at 4H Center at 10:30 P.M. Lights out at 11:00 PM!

Student Rooms

Tuesday-Thursday Bus itineraries will vary Everyone will see the same sites Lunches will be on your own Lunches can be expensive! Expect to pay $12-20 for each meal. Souvenir Shopping at museums we visit or at the mall that your group visits.

D.C. Stuff LOTS OF WALKING!!! 6-8 miles per day You CANNOT sit down inside the Capitol building (or many other buildings) unless you are in a theater or on a bench built into the wall. You are to be ABSOLUTLEY QUIET at Arlington National Cemetery (Level 0 Noise!) You will be removed from a location if you cannot follow these rules!

Especially at indoor venues No large bags/book bags at most locations No water or other liquid at some locations No sprays or lotions at some locations No gum at most locations Metal detectors at most locations X-ray machines at most locations

General Rules Be respectful. Dress appropriately; school dress code applies: no sweat pants, no ripped jeans, no short shorts You will not be allowed to board the bus if you are not dressed appropriately! Wear your hoodie every day! Name tag is your meal ticket! Don’t lose it! Stay hydrated! NO energy drinks!

Technology Rules Be Respectful! Respect others! Use technology on the bus as long as you pay attention during required movies on board. Cannot text or use headphones or ear buds while with a tour guide or inside a building. Use your phone only as a camera while with a tour guide or inside a building - with permission DO NOT POST pictures of other people to social media without their permission! YOU are responsible for your device – no matter who was using it! Take care of your things! Be Respectful! Respect others!

DISCIPLINE We’re committed to providing a great time and an excellent learning experience for you! Everyone deserves to have a safe and undisturbed environment. We EXPECT you to be respectful and act responsibly at all times! We expect the positive responses and comments about HRMS students’ behaviors to continue! Everyone will enjoy the trip if you will respect everyone’s rights and space.

DISCIPLINE – Continued To that extent, we will not offer second chances! Mrs. Lee will accompany us on the trip and will issue appropriate discipline as necessary, even to the point of calling your parents to go to DC and pick you up at their own expense. If you are caught stealing or anything else that may be against the law, the Washington, D.C. Police will be called and they will handle the situation. They will contact your parents. Rules in DC are STRICTLY ENFORCED!!! During the day, you will be with your group and group leader at all times!

PACKING GUIDELINES National 4H Center Set up like hotel Bunk Beds Hotel-type amenities No Swimming! Cafeteria-style breakfasts 24-Hour Security 1 SMALL PC LUGGAGE 1 BAG FOR THE BUS (like a book bag) Sack lunch on the way 2 pr comfortable shoes Dress in layers Money for 3 lunches, 1 dinner & 1 fast-food meal on the way home and any optional souvenirs ($75+)

PACKING - Continued Check the Weather Channel often in the days leading up to the trip. It is usually about 10-12 degrees cooler there than it is here. At this time of year, the average temperature In Washington, D.C. is about 62° during the day and about 42° at night. Like North Carolina, the weather can change quickly! Be prepared! Take rain gear (poncho & umbrella) and warm weather things like hats, and gloves!

Return Home Thursday night about midnight You will call your parents when we are 1 hour away from Harris Road. Teachers will tell you when to make the call. No student will be allowed to walk home! Teachers will dismiss you. Spring break begins the next day - Friday

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: MONEY FOR MEALS ($75-$100) Save back at least $10 for your fast food meal on the way back home! Your sack lunch to eat on the way to D.C. Money for Souvenirs (optional)

Medical Info All meds that are to be administered by an adult must be turned in to the school nurse by WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3RD
