Do Now: ( 5 minutes) Read the information on the next slide. Write a paragraph explaining how the concepts of industrialization, immigration and urbanization created change in America.

Forces That Created Change Between the years 1870-1920 America went through its most dramatic changes. Following the end of the Civil War in 1865, Americans began to make things in factories and not in the home. This shift from farming to manufacturing with machines was called INDUSTRIALIZATION. Most of the factories and manufacturing jobs were located in cities, so former farmers and newly arrived immigrants moved to live and work in cities. This overcrowded population led to URBANIZATION, or the rise and development od cities. For the first time, more people were living in cities than on the farm.
