HOW CAN WE INCREASE GENDER EQUALITY, AND HAVE WE DONE THAT IN SOME PARTS OF THE WORLD YET? This is a real problem because without gender equality in the world you are eliminating half of the populations help to the world. Without women in the society there will not be rules that adapt to both men and women, the focus will only be about men and their needs in the society. Why this is a problem to the global community? Who or what is being harmed by the problem? How big is this problem? Why must we act now? if the problem is not dealt with now

Content Research question Target goals Target goal progress (2016) Measures to increase gender equality Technology Front figures Conclusion Sources

Target goals End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere. Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking, sexual and other types of exploitation. Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation. http://www.globalgoals.org/global-goals/gender-equality/

Progress (2016) Access to education Child marriages 32% (1990) → 26% (2016) Women´s participation in parlament 23% (2016) https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/sdg5 Girls’ access to education has improved, the rate of child marriage declined and progress was made in the area of sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, including fewer maternal deaths. Nevertheless, gender equality remains a persistent challenge for countries worldwide and the lack of such equality is a major obstacle to sustainable development. Globally, the proportion of women aged between 20 and 24 who reported that they were married before their eighteenth birthday dropped from 32 per cent around 1990 to 26 per cent around 2015. - Globally, women’s participation in parliament rose to 23 percent in 2016, representing an increase by 6 percentage points over a decade. Slow progress in this area is in contrast with more women in parliamentary leadership positions. In 2016, the number of women speakers of national parliaments jumped from 43 to 49 (out of the 273 posts globally); women accounted for 18 percent of all speakers of parliament in January 2016.

12 steps to achieve gender equality in our lifetimes Talk to women and girls Let girls use mobile phones Stop child marriages and sexual harassment Make education gender sensitive Raise aspirations of girls and their parents Empower mothers Get women into power Work together Stop the violence Not alle 12 steps here https://www.theguardian.com/global-development- professionals-network/2016/mar/14/gender-equality-women-girls-rights- education-empowerment-politics http://genderstats.org/ Raise aspirations of girls and their parents: One of the key strategies must be to change how girls, families and society imagine what girls can be and can do. We need to give girls images and role models that expand their dreams. -Christine Hunter Empower mothers: In Afghanistan, there have been great moves to increase number of girls going through formal education through providing schools for girls in every district. We have learned that through empowering women on the community level you will also enhance girls education. When mothers are educated and empowered to make choices in their lives, they enable their daughters to go to school. Get women into power: A proven way to overcome many systemic barriers to a woman’s success has been increased participation by women in local, regional and national legislation as empowered change agents. In just 10 years, the number of women holding seats in houses of national parliament in south Asia rose from 7% to 18%. But a global goal of equal representation is still a long way off, with only one woman for every four men in parliamentary houses. A woman’s voice and her ability to become a leader in her community is fundamental to empowering women. Work together: Alarmingly, gender gaps in sub-Saharan Africa have widened at higher levels of schooling. This is a reverse of the global trend towards greater parity. Between 1999 and 2010, the ratio of girls in secondary school fell from 83 to 82 girls for every 100 boys at the secondary level and from 67 to 63 girls for every 100 boys at the tertiary level. https://www.theguardian.com/global-development-professionals- network/2016/mar/14/gender-equality-women-girls-rights- education-empowerment-politics

HOW CAN WE INCREASE GENDER EQUALITY, AND HAVE WE DONE THAT IN SOME PARTS OF THE WORLD YET? Conclusion Back to the research question: Talk to women and girls Let girls use mobile phones Stop child marriages and sexual harassment Make education gender sensitive Raise aspirations of girls and their parents Empower mothers Get women into power Work together Stop the violence Get it out online, talk about it in medias. Let the world know that we have not reached gender equality world-wide yet. A lot of countries in Europe such as Norway, Denmark, Italy, Portugal and Spain, but also Australia and Canada.
