Presentation transcript:

(Penang English Language Learning & Teaching Association) Let’s read a story By Loke Khoon Ee PELLTA (Penang English Language Learning & Teaching Association)

Look, this is Tanya’s room. Is your room the same or different?

Look again. Who do you think the other woman is?

Guess what is the woman saying?

Do you think Tanya will be able to find her homework book?

Who was Tarzanya? Why did Tarzanya want to swing through the jungle?

So why did the boy shake Tarzanya’s hand?

What is a deep pit? It is a deep hole. How do you make a pit? You can dig to make a hole/pit. You must dig far down to make a deep pit/hole. Guess who else came into Tanya’s room.

What could happen next? Guess who else came into Tanya’s room.

Guess who is Mike? OR Do you think Mike is related to Tanya?

So what do you think happened to Tanya’s homework book?

REFLECTION: Do you like the story? What do you like about Tanya? What don’t you like about Tanya? Are you like Tanya – sometimes an untidy girl? What should Tanya learn from this experience? What do you learn from this story? (for English & Moral Values)

Homework: Fill in the blanks/speech bubbles. What would Tanya’s Grandfather say if he had walked into her room when it was a mess? What would Tanya’s best friend say to her if she had walked into her room after it was all cleaned up?

Language Arts JAZZ CHANT Ask the high proficiency students to write their own jazz chant. Share or exchange in small groups. Rewrite to produce the BEST group jazz chant to perform. Other groups are also judges to evaluate and award each other’s group performances from1(lowest) to 10 (highest) marks, & tell what you like about each performance.

Sample: part of a Jazz Chant Tanya: Where’s my homework book? X2 Mum, Dad, Granny, please help me find my homework book! Mum: Oh my god! What a mess! Your room is a mess. I can’t help you. Clean it up! Dad: Oh dear! What a messy room! I can’t help you unless you tidy it up! Granny: _________________________ Mum, Dad & Granny:________________

Language Arts ROLE PLAY Use the dialogue in the story/ students’ written work. Add NEW characters to the dialogue – e.g. Grandfather, Uncle, Aunt, Sister, Best Friend, etc.

Teacher’s Reflection: How successful was this lesson? How can I improve on this lesson? How much English have my pupils learnt?(L,S,R,W & Grammar?) How much moral values have they learnt? What follow-up activities can I plan for the class for effective learning of English &/Moral Values?
