In 1993, acquired the MidSouth Railroad which provided a direct corridor from Shreveport to Meridian, MS. In 1996, acquired a 49% share in the primary Mexican rail franchise, TFM. In 2005, acquired full ownership of the Mexican franchise and renamed it Kansas City Southern de Mexico. In the mid-1990’s, KCS also became a 50% owner of the Panama Canal Railway, a 47-mile railroad linking the port cities of Balboa and Colon. The PCRC runs parallel to the Panama Canal.
