Directions for Title: *Work with your group to determine a catchy title. The title can be creative, but must make sense and correlate with your experiment.

Self and Peer editing activity Please have your paper and 3 different colored writing utensils ready to go.

Heading Is your heading correct? Your Name Ms. Kernan 7th Grade English 20 March 2015 Is your heading correct? Double check, please  Please highlight the incorrect part of the heading.

Formatting Is the paper double spaced? Don’t double-double space between paragraphs Did you use Times New Roman and 12 point font? Is the title centered? Make sure it is NOT underlined. If you have not changed the title from “title” please make a note to do so.

Argument check Is the argument in the correct format? Example: P.E. should not be required because reason 1, reason 2, and reason 3. Is it the last sentence of the introduction? If not highlight it.

Works cited Is your works cited the last page of your paper? Is it titled Works Cited? Make sure it’s centered and spelled correctly. Make sure it’s not underlined. Make sure the “W” and the “C” are capitalized. Are the sources in ABC order?

In-text citations Do the citations in you paper (you need 3-5) correspond with your works cited page? If you only have 3 sources in cited in your paper, you should only have 3 listed on the works cited. Count them out! Are they cited correctly? No author= (“Shortened Article Title”). Author= (Last Name).

Spelling/Grammar check Trade papers with the person to your right. They need to read your paper. Focus on spelling and grammar. Coordinating Conjunction (FANBOYS) Circle the words that are spelled incorrectly. Circle areas where you believe punctuation is needed.

Word choice Work to use advanced words  Highlight or circle words your find to be boring or vague. Examples: good, thing, a lot, very, stuff Highlight or circle transition words that are used more than twice. Rule: 3 in a row, one must go! Examples: Also, Another thing Take out your transition word handout.

NO “I” Does the person use the words I, me, my, or mine in their paper? GET RID OF IT!

Conferencing with a peer Have the person to your right read your paper and complete the orange sheet. **Skip the second question

Paper is due on monday! Remember, I don’t want a hard copy of your paper. Save it in the all share in the file “Ms. Kernan” Or leave me your flash drive taped to a piece of paper with your name and the document’s name on it.
